Imperial Tobacco FSDU

We were commissioned by Imperical Tobaco to design, develop, manufacture and install a bespoke fridge floor standing unit in Warehouse settings.

We feel this FSDU creates theatre, especially after achieving all its targets and more, the whole industry was talking about it! These FSDUs were to be showcased in Tobacco Rooms at Wholesale Cash & Carry outlets.

As apposed to how we made this unit. We created it using a variety of materials, such as card for the main body of the fridge unit. The door was created from clear PETG with a foamex frame for stability so the shoppers could see what was inside easily. The handle was made out of metal to make it easy to open the unit by shoppers, as well as being practical. The inside shelving units were created by card – therefore this was really cost effective for the customer, instead of using metal. The materials used made the manufacturing process become easily manipulative, easy to move as well as being recyclable.

This fridge FSDU is classed as environmentally friendly as the metal handle can easily me melted down as compressed into any other metal product item. The card which was using for the whole unit, including the inside shelving can easily be dismantled and recycled. The Foamex around the door frame can also be recycled also, making this unit fully sustainable.
This fridge FSDU was cost effective as our main material source was card. There were options to use acrylic, metal and a variety of other materials which would make the FSDU more durable, however we met the client’s standards and guidelines with creating the unit out of card – this also makes it easier to move without further controlled assistance in the warehouse.
The overall design of the unit has an appealing frosted and ice cold appearance due the white and blue gradient and effective print, successfully setting the theme.

 

 

 

The use of graphics on a one hundred percent scale over the curved top, sides and back was successfully executed with the use of branded Imperial Tobacco brands. This was a vital guideline we were commissioned and the use of colours really grab your attention, making this FSDU stand out from the rest.
‘to launch three new products’ – These were L&B Blue Crushballs Superkings, Gold Leaf Menthol “Ice Pack”, JPS Players Superkings Crushball. The client wanted something for Independant Retailers to see when they purchase their tobacco products from the Cash & Carry wholesalers.

We came up with a number of ideas of how to do this with separate FSDU’s, shelf highlighters etc but the idea of putting all three brands together on to one FSDU was the one that really worked best. But we needed to come up with something more than just a boring FSDU this had to stand out and really look different.

OBJECTIVES

To create excitements behind the brands – We wanted our unit to create excitement and when looking at the products we were given one of the key factors was the ICE cold menthol taste the product gives. We set about thinking everything ICE and came uyp with the idea of a Fridge FSDU. Based around the iconic SMEG fridge we designed an FSDU that looked like an old fridge with Ice forming all around it. The product had to be easily seen for shoppers to so we had a clear door. The end result was amazing, it created lots of noise with people thinking it was actually a live fridge.

To achieve sales targets – Sales for the launch completely outstripped targets, by 3.7% which may not seem much but in such a large market it is huge for tobacco brands.
